Flâneur - Rosabel Salloum & Emmett Angel
Through a series of urban walks, a young protagonist aspires to embody the ‘Flâneur’ archetype — a lifestyle privileged to men. By means of passive observation, they walk in pursuit of this state, one that is characterized by untouchable elegance, wisdom, and liberation.
The walker's struggle is underscored by an inability to attain the Flâneur’s sense of freedom, due to the dynamics of gender in public space. Slowly, their perception of themself and those around them unravels, and their intimate connection with the world grows distant.
Flâneur traces a journey through Toronto’s urban landscape, while seeking to redefine the archetype — as an opportunity to attain self-discovery through community, instead of isolation.
